MALMESBURY Victoria’s hopes of winning the Hellenic League Division One West title were boosted by an excellent 2-0 victory at home to leaders Easington Sports last weekend.

Jamie Packer struck twice at the Flying Monk Ground to move Vics level on points with their beaten opponents, although Sports remain top on goal difference.

The two teams were due to meet again on Tuesday night in the semi-finals of the Subsidiary Cup.

Pewsey Vale were without a game last weekend but return to action on Saturday when they host Thornbury Town.

Malmesbury have no fixture scheduled.

Meanwhile, Royal Wootton Bassett Town rounded off their Premier Division fixtures for the season with a narrow 3-2 defeat at home to Longlevens.

TJ Bohane and Bradley Pagliaroli were both on target for Bassett in the first half, but it was not enough for Sam Collier’s side to take anything from the game at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground.

Bassett sit eighth in the table, but their hopes of a top-10 finish depend on results for other clubs in the coming weeks.
