RICHIE Wellens will not be rushed into making a decision with regards to who starts in goal at Bury this weekend, after Luke McCormick gave the Town boss plenty of food for thought against Morecambe.

McCormick made three key first half saves to maintain Town’s two-goal lead at half time against the Shrimps, who were eventually downed 4-0 following strikes from Dion Conroy and Kyle Bennett in the second half.

The 35-year-old has appeared 13 times for Town this season – compared to Vigouroux’s 31 – and has six clean sheets to his name.

Vigouroux meanwhile has record seven clean sheets this year, and conceded an average of 0.4 more goals per game than Town’s number two.

Those stats combined have seemingly turned fans’ opinion on who should occupy the goalkeeping role for the remainder of the season.

But Wellens insists a decision will not be made until the later in the week, with Vigouroux still on international duty with Chile.

The Town boss said: “We don’t know if Lawrence (Vigouroux) is going to be injured while he’s out with Chile, we don’t know if he’s going to be back on time.

“There is no point in making an early decision. I’ll have a clear head through the week and think about it then.”

Wellens not only took encouragement from the performance of McCormick, but also his four front men – three of whom registered a goal.

The 39-year-old has called on his strikers to be more ruthless in front of goal in recent weeks, and the confident nature of Town’s four goals at the weekend certainly pleased him.

“In recent weeks players have chipped in – Luke Woolfenden and Canice Carroll have both scored,” said Wellens.

“It’s actually the strikers I want to see being ruthless. A few players got goals on Saturday, and it’s good that three of the front four picked up a goal.

“That will give them confidence. Theo (Robinson) has scored three and Kyle (Bennett) has too, they’re in good form.

“It’s about now repeating what they’re doing, because they’re good players.

“Can we get them in areas to cause damage? Last week (against Port Vale) they did that, but didn’t produce.

“This week, we got them in the areas time and time again to cause damage and that’s what they did.”
