CALNE Rugby Club have set up new walking rugby sessions in effort help men and women over the age of 45 stay active and have fun without the risk of injury.
Interest has steadily grown, with sessions taking place at 7pm on Tuesday evenings and set to continue throughout the summer.
The club have also secured sponsorship from E Wootten Funeral Directors, based in Calne, for match shirts.
Team founder and former Calne RFC chairman Chris Austin said: “Walking Rugby has really grown in popularity and is a way to stay active and meet new people.
“Men and women can play this non-contact variation of the sport regardless of fitness and ability. It improves hand to eye co-ordination, and everyone loves it.
“We are delighted to have E Wootten Funeral Directors as our match shirt sponsors, and it was great to see Jeffrey Browning pulling on his trainers to join us.
“Our aim is to set up some matches with other local walking rugby teams and maybe set up a tournament in Calne. This could be the start of something big.
“I would urge anyone to come along and give Walking Rugby a go.”
