MEMBERS of Devizes Canoe Club recorded impressive results at the Waterside Series Race A on Sunday.

The race saw paddlers tackle a 13-mile course along the Kennet and Avon Canal from Great Bedwyn to Newbury.

The club’s best performers were Mollie Ball and Matilda Enoch, who won the K2 junior ladies’ class in 2hrs 13mins 33secs.

Devizes had four teams finish inside the top 10, with Catriona Edington and Maddy Wilks fourth (2:31:06), Alice Butler and Liz Peak fifth (2:32:07) and Maddie George and Poppy Waterworth seventh (2:33:58).

In senior races, Edd Dobson and Mike Rees-Clark were third (1:46:34) in the men’s K2, with Katherine Marsh and Claire Smith 10th (2:54:29) in the ladies’ K2.

Algie Fooks and Tom Scott were eighth (2:19:24) in the junior men’s K2, while Josh Mallinson and Finn Smith finished 16th (2:31:22).

Devizes had three teams in the K2 veteran class, the best of which was Simon Guest and Jonathan Osborne in 11th (2:11:19). Kevin Crabb and Neil Edgar came 12th (2:12:14), with Nick Prichard and Matt Webster 23rd (2:59:16).

Andrew Park was 22nd (3:07:30) in the K1 veteran class, while Mae Allen and Pete Clarke placed ninth (2:16:34) amongst junior veterans.

In the K2 mixed event, Howard Witt and Jill Priday finished 21st (2:30:17).

Carraig Green was the best placed Devizes finisher in the K1 junior men’s event, coming sixth (2:22:35). Adam McCormick was 10th (2:25:50) and Charlie Allen 14th (2:37:35).

Finally, Dan Colby and Rob Hansford finished 10th (2:32:17) in the Canadian doubles field.
