IT has been some time since our last ‘Trust Matters’ column, and while some of you can be forgiven for wondering what’s been going on behind the scenes at the Swindon Town Supporters’ Trust, rest assured we have been busy.

You may recall that back in August, Swindon Town Football Club announced they were working with Swindon Town Supporters on a 50/50 joint bid to purchase and develop the County Ground stadium, and whilst negotiations and discussions continue, we are moving closer to a point where any supporter can get the chance to own a ‘Community Share’ in the County Ground.

We do keep in touch with members on a monthly basis through our email newsletter, and give updates after each of our board meetings, but overall it’s been a frustrating time for everyone involved with the Trust. Our lack of communication has been largely caused by the confidential nature of our discussions over the last year.

That will all change in a few weeks when on Friday 15th March we host our Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the MECA in Regents Circus, Swindon (6pm-11pm).

Please register in advance and come along - all Town fans are welcome and it is free entry. This year will be special because the main point of the evening will be celebration!

15th March 2019 is a very important date in the Swindon Town calendar, as it represents the 50th Anniversary of Town’s famous 1969 League Cup Final win.

We’ll start the evening by interviewing some Town legends of the day (we’ll reveal those names soon) and we’ll recap on the final. Afterwards there will be a chance for photos, and you’ll get some special souvenir freebies to help remember the night.

We’ll then give full attention to the County Ground campaign with updates from all supporters groups, and there will be plenty of chances for people to ask whatever questions they want. We should be in a position to answer most of them by then.

We’re putting on food and refreshments, and there will be a cash bar at the ready to help us party on with a live band through to 11pm.

After announcing this event on social media, over 100 people registered to attend in just 24 hours, so get yourself booked in if you haven’t already as places are limited: http://truststfc.tv/party

Whether Swindon Town ever make another major final remains to be seen, but as supporters we should never take this tremendous achievement for granted. Our evening represents a fantastic opportunity to spend time together in celebration of what many believe is the single greatest achievement in our club’s history.

Hopefully see you there, should be a great night!
