WARMINSTER Town boss Andy Crabtree hailed his side’s ‘best performance of the season’ in Toolstation League Division One as the driving force behind a stunning second-half goalscoring rout en route to a 5-0 victory over Wincanton Town on Saturday.

Despite going in at the break level, Crabtree’s men came out firing in the second half and put away five unanswered goals to record their biggest win since the 7-1 demolition of Bristol Telephones in early September.

Two-goal hero Charlie Walton led the way for Warminster with Connor McKay, Jake Wright and substitute Martin Johnson also netting in the 5-0 victory.

Crabtree was understandably delighted with his side’s second-half finishing ability and felt that once his side got their first, they were not going to be stopped.

He said: “It was still 0-0 at half-time but we just came out and played well in the second half. All credit to the boys, they put in a good shift.

“We had a few chances in the first half and their goalkeeper made three good saves. We huffed and puffed without really getting anywhere.

“We settled down in the second half and once we scored the first goal, we went to town.

“We got up a head of steam and Wincanton didn’t really have any answers for it. It is the best we have played for a long, long time.

“I think it’s probably the best we have played this season. I can’t remember a Warminster side winning at home in such style like that. It was a great result and a great day. “

After ending a run of two successive defeats, Crabtree has already turned his focus to Saturday’s Wiltshire derby against Calne Town.

With a mid-table finish the most likely result for Warminster, Crabtree just wants his side to produce more performances like the one against Wincanton and is aware that it might be necessary if they are to pick up a positive result in their next two fixtures.

He said: “We have got two really tough games coming up, starting with Calne this weekend.

“It’s Cheddar the week after, so we are under no illusions. We know how difficult it is going to be.

“You don’t know what is around the corner, but we have shown a lot more consistency of late.

“We will just go out and do our best. No one game is ever the same as the one before it.”

Elsewhere in Division One, there were wins for both Corsham Town and Chippenham Park as Town strolled to a 3-0 win over Chard, while Park edged out Wells City 1-0.

Meanwhile, Calne Town and Devizes Town drew 0-0.
