AHEAD of the start of Louis Harvey’s 2019 Motorsport UK British Karting Championship season, the Malmesbury kart racer look part in round one of the Shenington Winter Series at the weekend.

With some of the top drivers from 2018 wanting to get as much racing in as possibly, Harvey drove hard and was rewarded with second place as Klaassen Motorsport team-mate Ben Watson just pipped him to top spot.

Saturday’s testing session went well, with Harvey quickest on track in a number of sessions, with Sunday’s race day seeing two heats and a final contested.

Starting from 18th on the grid, Harvey drove a superb race to cross the line fourth, only to then pick up a five-second penalty for a dislodged nose cone during the hectic start in the damp conditions. This pushed him back to sixth.

Harvey started heat two from third and without having to battle through the traffic. He made the most of this to take the lead in the first lap, which he held until the finish line to claim victory.

The final saw the top four drivers from the 2018 British Karting championships lock out the from two rows, with Harvey starting in fourth.

What followed was a demonstration of excellent kart racing, with all four swapping places throughout.

The race could have been won by either driver, with Harvey eventually crossing the line second behind team-mate Watson.
