WILTSHIRE golfer brought the curtain down on his European Tour campaign with a strong finish at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.

Derry Hill’s Smith finished in a tie for 12th place on 11-under and collected one of his biggest pay days of the season with a 116,000 Euro prize.

That saw Smith finish 43rd on the overall Race To Dubai rankings, having won more than 1million Euros on Tour for the second season in succession.

Former Masters champion Danny Willett triumphed at the DP World Tour Championships on 18-under, while Italy’s Open Champion, Francesco Molinari, won the overall Race To Dubai crown.

Smith got off to an exceptional start at Jumeirah Golf Estates and a six-under first round of 66 saw him tie for the lead after the first round in Dubai.

Two more rounds in the 60s followed to keep the Bowood player in strong contention heading into the final round on 13-under.

Although a two-over final round of 74 meant he was ultimately unable to contend for victory, the outcome still represented a positive finish to the campaign.
