WESTBURY United joint-manager Neil Kirkpatrick has admitted that every opponent will “want a piece” of his side due to their excellent form so far this season.

United have won 10 of their 11 Toolstation League Premier Division games so far, and last Friday progressed to the third round of the Wiltshire Senior Cup following a comfortable 4-2 win over Shrewton United.

Two goals from Callum Demkiv and one each for Jamie Jordan and Daniel Kovacs secured the win, but despite the manner of the victory, Kirkpatrick felt his side’s success could have been even more emphatic.

“The performance was a little bit more convincing than the scoreline suggests,” said Kirkpatrick, who manages the side alongside his son Joe.

“It could have been four or five at half-time and six or seven at the end.”

But while his side have won the majority of their games so far this term, Kirkpatrick is aware United do suffer mental frailties at times, something he is keen to address.

“We have struggled against teams in the lower half for some reason,” said Kirkpatrick.

“We were absolutely outstanding in the first-half, but we thought we had done the job.

“Then they scored a freak goal where the guy slips and it goes in. But we bounced back and scored the third soon afterwards.”

Reflecting on the next round, Kirkpatrick feels now would be a good time for his side to test themselves against higher league opposition.

He said: “We would like to play a big gun. A Chippenham or a Melksham would be great.

“We have got nothing to lose and we just want to keep on winning.”
