TEENAGER Scott Twine hopes his aesthetically pleasing first senior goal in a Swindon Town shirt can prompt manager Phil Brown to consider him for selection in the club’s crucial block of League Two fixture in the build up to Christmas.

Twine struck with 12 minutes on the board on Saturday in Town’s FA Cup first round tie at home against non-league club York City.

A ball from Jermaine McGlashan on the right was neatly back-heeled by a turning Twine before striking Adam Bartlett’s far post and bobbling into the net – handing Town a much-needed early lead.

The goal has been sometime coming for Twine, who had to wait 12 games before notching for his home town club, having made his first-team debut at the conclusion of the 2016/17 campaign against Charlton Athletic.

Scoring inspired Twine to try his chance more, and his confidence in front of goal certainly caught the eye of boss Brown, who now must consider the 19-year-old for selection against Carlisle United next weekend in Swindon's next league assignment.

With Marc Richards and Elijah Adebayo both out of form, Twine hopes he can cement his place in the first team on a more regular basis.

He said: “The gaffer has put a lot of trust in me playing me in an FA Cup game, it is a big game. I am glad I scored the goal to repay him for that. Hopefully I can play more now.

“The front three was with Elijah and Keshi (Anderson). I love playing with those two because they are similar to me in ways and we think the same ways at times.

“We had licence to move around. When we are in the same team in training, we do quite well. I think that’s why he went with us three up front today.”

Saturday’s opponents York threw Twine back into familiar territory following a lengthy loan spell with Chippenham Town in National League South last season.

Learning under Bluebirds boss Mark Collier granted Twine confidence in front of goal – and he was able to exploit that confidence well with a series of bursting runs, particularly in the first half.

Twine said: “National League is a good level, it is not a bad level at all. I knew it would be a tough game. When I was at Chippenham, there was not one easy game there.

“They are all good players, but I am genuinely thankful we got through today.

“We will work hard this week to make sure we do really well next Saturday.

“I think this is a club for giving young players a go and I am thankful for the gaffer as he has given me some chances.”
