NEW striker Mark Robinson made an instant impact for Devizes Town on Saturday, scoring a hat-trick in a 6-1 thrashing of county rivals Warminster Town at home.

The victory sees Darran Walters’ side return to winning ways in emphatic fashion after a run of three defeats in a row in the Toolstation League First Division.

Robert Mitchell also struck twice for Devizes at Nursteed Road and Ryan Bole was also on target as Charlie Walton got Warminster’s goal before being sent off in the second half.

Devizes boss Walters said: “We are delighted with that result after what has been a tricky spell over the last few games. I would have settled for a 1-0 win, so to win so emphatically is really pleasing.

“We just haven’t been taking our chances recently, so we brought in a new striker and Mark proved he is a quality player.

“Because we have had a few people missing recently, we have missed that little bit of quality in front of goal. We wanted to bring in an out-and-out number nine and that’s what Mark is.

“It is a great start from him and hopefully he can go on to get a few more goals for us now.

“We started well and were able to put the game to bed quite comfortably. It was nice to see the lads taking their chances when they came along.

“It’s an important result as it’s such a close league. It keeps us in touch with the teams above us and that’s what we need to do.”

Elsewhere, Corsham Town ended a three-match winless run in all competitions with a 3-1 victory away at Bishop Sutton.

Dan Harvey put Corsham ahead in the first minute of the match and although Sutton looked to have snatched a point with a late equaliser, there was still time for Justin Flowers’ side to raise the tempo again as further goals from Josh Bright and Dan King secured the points.

Stuart Windsor was on target for Calne Town as they earned a 1-1 draw away at Oldland Abbotonians.
