SWINDON Town's disappointing season hit a new low this week as previously second-bottom Cambridge United outplayed Phil Brown’s side at the Energy Check County Ground to drop them to 15th in League Two.

This defeat sees Town now winless in six league games, stretching back over a month, and without a home league win since August 18 after scoring just one goal in their last four matches at the County Ground.

In last week’s piece, I said the games against Mansfield Town and Cambridge would give us some indication of Brown’s future at the club, and after both games, it’s difficult to see how he’s the man to take us forward.

It all comes down to your own ambition for this season, if you think staying up is the aim, Brown should stay as I’m confident he would achieve that goal.

If you recognise success as finishing in mid-table and consolidating our position in League Two, again I firmly believe our current boss is the man for the job.

But if like me, you don’t want Town to become a run-of-the-mill League Two side and are desperate for promotion, I can’t say that Brown is the man to earn that success.

One of the reasons is his refusal to change his system. I recognise he changes formations and styles of play reacting to the scoreline, but he must see the 4-3-3 formation he current adopts isn’t earning the points.

If he insists on sticking with this formation, he needs to change the man who is currently leading the line, Marc Richards.

It’s clear to everyone the former Northampton Town striker seems to have lost his ability to find the back of the net.

Given time, he might rediscover that goalscoring touch, but we haven’t got time to wait.

Brown needs to start playing Elijah Adebayo as the focal point of attack and Keshi Anderson and Jermaine McGlashan either side, with Kaiyne Woolery introduced when fully fit.

This weekend, Town travel to lowly Notts County, who until this week had been enjoying a good run of form under new boss Harry Kewell.

If we see another lacklustre performance, it’s hard to see how Lee Power can keep faith with his manager for much longer.
