D-MAN Sam Jones says Swindon Wildcats cannot afford to take Streatham lightly this weekend, although has no doubt they are capable of continuing their perfect start to the new NIHL South One season.

Aaron Nell’s side have won all four of the league fixtures they have played so far this term and continue their programme with a double-header against the south London side, starting at the Link Centre this evening.

Streatham currently sit second in the table, with a record of five wins from eight games, so Jones is well aware of the challenge ahead.

However, with confidence flowing through the Cats camp, the 20-year-old is sure Swindon can keep up their flying form.

“You can’t complain too much about the start we have had. We have had 12 wins in 14 games (in all competitions), so I don’t know what else we could ask for,” said Jones.

“We have been perfect at home and although sometimes it is tougher away, it has been a great start.

“Streatham are a good side. They have a lot of guys who have got a lot of Elite League experience, I have played with a lot of them.

“They have a couple of good imports too and they are a good team. We can’t take them lightly.

“This year especially, there is a lot of competition. There are no bad teams and any team can win on any night, we see that every weekend. There are close games between every team. It is a league where you can’t take a night off.

“They will be a tough nut to crack. We can’t take them lightly, but I am sure we can get the wins.”

Tonight’s match at the Link Centre gets under way at 6.15pm before the two teams resume battle at Streatham Ice Rink tomorrow.
