TALENTED teenager Elliot Pinson ended his first season in the British Superbikes Dickies Junior Supersport Championship in third place, despite missing the opening round of the competition.

Pinson, a Royal Wootton Bassett Academy student, was playing catch up from day one after not entering the first round of the eight-round series.

The 15-year-old showed great determination and signs of consistency though to launch a bid for a top three finish in the highly regarded competition, which he achieved last weekend at the world-famous Brands Hatch GP circuit.

Pinson entered the final round of the series trailing the top two riders by 10 points with two races remaining.

His chances of securing a spot on the second step of the podium were boosted dramatically on Saturday morning when he set the fastest lap time to secure pole position by a clear 0.2 seconds – his third pole position of the season.

In dry conditions, Pinson led from lights to flag in the opening eight-lap race of the weekend, which consequently secured his fourth race win of the season.

His efforts on the Saturday closed the gap between himself and second place in the championship to five points with a single race remaining.

The bright weather that has peppered Britain over the summer months failed to present itself on the Sunday, though, as the competition’s only wet race of the season took place.

Despite his best efforts, Pinson wasn’t able to secure the race win required.

However he did manage to finish second, his 14th podium finish of the season.
