SWINDON Ladies recorded their second West Clubs Premier Division 2A win at the weekend when holding onto a fragile one-goal lead in the closing minutes against Chippenham.

In pleasant conditions, Swindon quickly got into their stride and were ahead with six minutes on the clock.

Issy Harding made confident progress down the sideline before finding Gemma Scrase in space, who fed the ball to Lynsey Wall who slotted the ball into the corner – rounding off a well-worked goal.

It didn’t take long for the hosts to equalise, though.

Chippenham levelled just two minutes later before a second goal reversed Swindon’s earlier one-goal lead into a one-goal deficit with 12 minutes played.

A period of domination followed for Swindon, who could only equalise – to make it 2-2 – on 26 minutes as Chloe Lewis took advantage of Adriana Boullosa’s endeavour in the build-up to level the game.

The pendulum swung back in Swindon’s favour on 32 minutes when Lynsey intercepted a loose pass by the Chippenham defence before finding an unmarked Chloe Lewis.

Lewis drove into the D before placing her effort into the top left corner, granting Swindon a 4-2 lead.

With the half-time whistle looming, that lead was quickly stretched to five as Lewis bagged her hat-trick when scoring from a penalty corner.

The second half however proved a complete contrast for Swindon, who were denied a sixth goal when Lewis’ drag flick from a penalty corner was saved.

Chippenham made the most of Swindon’s ill-fortune and soon narrowed the lead down to one-goal with two strikes for the hosts from penalty corners.

Solid defensive work from Mary Goldsmith, Issy Harding, Natalie Moore and Player of the Match Ella Caldwell saw Swindon through though, eventually earning a 5-4 win.

Elsewhere, the second team had no such luck as they lost 3-1 at home to West Wiltshire.

Swindon took the lead in the first half before West Wiltshire equalised ahead of the break. Two second half goals then secured the points for the visitors.

Meanwhile Swindon 3s had to settle for a goalless draw away at Corsham, despite the persistent efforts displayed by both teams in midfield.
