SWINDON Shock bounced back in brilliant fashion from their first defeat of the season in National Division Three South with a dominant 146-86 victory at home to Oxford Brookes University last Saturday.

The victory was the perfect response to the previous narrow 108-106 loss away at London’s BC Medelynas and it ensures David Colclough’s troops lead the way in the early-season table with a narrow two-one win-loss record.

However, it was not a perfect weekend for Shock as they went down 93-82 at Barking Abbey Crusaders in the National Cup on Sunday.

Head coach Colclough took plenty of pleasure from the victory over Oxford in the league, though, with a commanding 45-17 scoreline in the third quarter setting up the success at New College after a cagey opening to the contest.

Colclough said: “We have not had a lot of success against Oxford in the past but that’s two games in a row against them that we have been nothing short of dominant.

“It was a good game in the first quarter, but their team started to trash talk and we took it a bit personally.

“I think that was an all-around team game and everyone got in on the act.

“With starting forward Matt North having been admitted to hospital the night before the game with an elbow injury, players stepped up in his absence.”

Mantas Kmita led the way for Swindon against Oxford, continuing his hot streak with an impressive 38-point haul.

Ed Potter also made a sizeable contribution with 25 points and Antonio Wilburn and Sam Newman bagged 21 apiece.

Ollie Swann also rose to the occassion by posting a career-high points tally of 12, while Alistair Tilney, Matt Ford and Janis Spruds all finished just shy of hitting double-digit figures themselves.

Swindon travel to Team Solent Kestrels this weekend to face the only other side with two league wins to their name this term, although the Southampton outfit have yet to taste defeat.
