SWINDON player-coach Aaron Nell hailed his side’s six-goal home win against London Raiders on Saturday night as Wildcats’ best performance of the season.

Edgars Bebris bagged a clinical hat-trick while Max Birbraer, Sam Jones and Aaron Nell also found the back of Michael Gray’s net to extend Swindon’s 100 per cent home record this season to seven games.

Netminder Renny Marr also left the ice in good spirits after recording his third shutout on the bounce, meaning he’s yet to concede in more than 180 minutes of league hockey.

The overall team performance against the Raiders delighted Nell, who was pleased to see his side not switch off in the third period - despite holding a comfortable four-goal advantage.

He said: “I was very happy with the team, they were excellent on Saturday.

“It was the best game we’ve played all year. London are a good team and they will be near the top of the league towards the end of the season.

“Renny (Marr) made some really big saves, especially at the start of the game.

“We scored two or three shifts after his penalty shot save too, he’s been great this season.

“The goals we scored against London were all great to see.”

While the final score suggests dominance, Wildcats have the solid efforts of the club’s defensive players to thank after London were denied a goal despite creating a series of chances throughout the game.

Raiders were unfortunate not to take an early lead when Daniel Scott’s one-timer was saved by Wildcats netminder Renny Marr before play was frozen by the officials – despite Marr not being in control of the puck.

A five-on-three powerplay for more than a minute was successfully killed by Wildcats in the third period – Jan Kostal proved a leading figure for the hosts when blocking a series of goal bound shots.

Renny Marr also played his part when saving Filip Sediby’s penalty shot mid-way through the second period.

“We’ve got some very good players, and when our big guys turn up we’re going to have a lot of success,” said Nell.

“I thought Max (Birbraer), Jan (Kostal) and Edgars (Bebris) were all superb, as were the rest of the team.

“Edgars is skating really well at the moment. I haven’t seen him skate with that speed in a long time, he’s a big player for us.”
