CHIPPENHAM Town will come up against a familiar foe in the FA Cup this weekend as they welcome Swindon Supermarine to Hardenhuish Park.

Manager Mark Collier has previously been at the helm for Marine and is looking forward to the Wiltshire outfits going head-to-head.

The winner will walk away with a spot in the third qualifying round, in addition to prize money of £15,000.

Collier says Chippenham should be the happier of the two teams on face value, but believes familiarity with their opponents could see them come undone.

“When you look at it, the first thing you want is a home tie. We have got that, so that’s good,” said Collier.

“We are playing a team who are below us, so that is good as well, however, we are aware that Supermarine are a dangerous team.

“They’re a club on the move in the right direction. Having said that, we are the home team, we are difficult to play on our own pitch and long may that continue.

“I think it might be a disadvantage to us. If you get a team you don’t know much about, you can make a plan.

“We know lots about Supermarine and Supermarine know lots about us, so it’s a case of who will be the best on the day.

“If it was anyone other than Supermarine, you’d be happy because it is a team in a lower division, but it is a local derby, so form goes out of the window.”

Chippenham have been given a boost ahead of the fixture as striker Nick McCootie demonstrated his fitness by featuring in the Bluebirds’ 1-0 win over Gloucester City last Saturday.

Experienced defender Yan Klukowski is also nearing full fitness and may have a part to play against Marine after getting 25 minutes under his belt at the weekend.

Collier said: “Greg Tindle, Alex Ferguson and Will Puddy won’t be back this weekend, but Yan Klukowski is closer to a start.

“Nick McCootie came on last weekend and he’s proved his fitness, so we are in a relatively good place fitness wise.”
