CORSHAM’S flawless start to the Southern Counties South season continued as they secured a second bonus-point triumph by putting Bradford on Avon to the sword 26-12 at Lacock Road.

The home side took the lead in the first half with two tries by full-back Robbie Robinson and wing Kalif Barnes, the second converted by Andy Williams.

Bradford struck back with two tries to cut the lead but Corsham finished the half strongly and Scott Parry went in under the posts to make the score 19-12 at the break.

Corsham scored the only try of the second half, with Alex Bilton capping an outstanding performance in the back row by going over for the bonus-point score after a strong driving maul from the pack, Williamson adding his third conversion.

Corsham head coach Tim Draper said: “It was a very competitive game and we had to step up our performance from last week.

“We played well in attack in the first half and put ourselves in a strong position.

“We didn’t capitalise on the opportunities we created in the second half but credit must go to Bradford for their determination in defence to keep us out.’’

Devizes blew a 19-point lead to slip to a 32-29 defeat to Bath side Walcot at the Chivers Ground.

The home side were without skipper Rory Brown and then lost try-scoring machine Lewis Dodds in the warm-up but started superbly, prop Alex Pattle bundling over the line and Andy Thompson converting before Jorge Wadman counter-attacked from 60 metres to go over for the second try.

Pattle then ploughed over for his second try and Thompson landed the extras to leave the hosts in control, but Walcot replied with two quick-fire converted tries to cut the gap to five points.

The Saddlebacks, however, added a fourth try before the interval, Thompson scoring it and converting as they built up a 26-14 advantage.

However, injuries to Matt Strong, Rhys Harries and Toby Randall cost the home side dearly after the break, Walcot scoring two more tries to move to within two points.

A third visitors’ try took them ahead for the first time and although Thompson levelled with a penalty, a Walcot kick sealed the victory.
