MALMESBURY racer Louis Harvey finished the weekend’s Midlands Championships on the podium after rescuing points in his final drive at Rissington Kart Club.

The annual event, which is held over two days at the Oxfordshire track, sees drivers race in two heats – with points from both days accumulated to decide the overall champion.

Despite being on form throughout the weekend, Harvey’s championship win was far from plain sailing as he suffered a setback during Saturday’s final when slipping out of the top three while tackling the circuit’s notorious dog leg turn.

Despite this, the youngster quickly recovered and fought with Klaassen Motorsport teammate Archie Strong for the lead.

Both drivers traded blows before Harvey – attempting a last bend lunge – ran wide and surrendered his second position to finish fifth in the weekend’s first final.

Harvey experienced better fortunes on day two, despite starting the race from sixth on the grid.

A quick start allowed the teenager to quickly take control of the race, moving up into top spot where he held his position to pick up a timely win.

His efforts – coupled with his fastest lap time across both days – ensured Harvey finished the weekend second, with Archie Strong earning top spot.
