MALMESBURY Victoria manager Kevin Bridgeman has warned his side against complacency ahead of tomorrow’s Hellenic League Division One West clash against Tytherington Rocks.

Although Tytherington are without a league win in 28 fixtures, Bridgeman does not want his side to bring about a change in fortune for the south Gloucestershire club, who opened their league campaign with a 2-1 loss against Almondsbury UWE on Saturday.

His slight cause for concern is backed up by Malmesbury entering the unknown this season, following their summer switch from the Toolstation League to the Hellenic League.

Bridgeman said: “We’re a little bit unknown in this league, because we’ve spent the last few years in the Toolstation League.

“It’s a bit unknown what we’re going to come up against, but it’s clear that Tytherington aren’t enjoying the best of times at the moment.

“They (Tytherington) started with a loss, so I’d imagine that their confidence is low. But then we need to be mindful that at some point they will turn a corner and start to pick up points.

“We don’t want to be the team that signals that start.

“We won’t be in for an easy ride at all, we’ll have to be on our A-game to pick up the points.”

Malmesbury had to wait longer than most to start their league campaign, having only kicked off a league match for the first time on Monday at Kidlington.

A 2-2 draw resulted from that clash, and Bridgeman could already pinpoint plenty of positives within his new-look team.

He said: “We’ve been waiting with baited breath for the league to start, we thought it would start much earlier than this.

“When we finally got going on Monday at Kidlington, it was good to get back into the groove.

“We are now really looking forward to the challenge ahead. There are only 26 league games, but we’ve got cup games as well.

“The boys performed really well in pre-season, but given we’ve added and lost faces our team spirit has been fantastic.”

Elsewhere, Sam Collier’s Royal Wootton Bassett Town are in FA Cup action when they host Lydney Town at the Gerrard Buxton Sports Ground.

Kick off for both games are at 3pm.
