NEIKELL Plummer struck for the second time in as many games as Melksham Town's dream start to life in Southern League Division One South continued with a 1-0 at Paulton Rovers on Tuesday night.

Plummer netted five minutes after half-time to wrap up a second 1-0 triumph in succession, the striker having also scored the winner in Saturday's season-opening home triumph against Evesham United.

Town boss Kieran Baggs believes his side were worthy winners and admits his squad are surfing a tide of good feelings that built up towards the end of the last campaign, which saw them promoted from the Toolstation League Premier Division.

"It was a similar performance to Saturday, we were very robust and aggressive defensively,'' said Baggs.

"During the course of the 90 minutes I don’t think anyone would disagree we were the worthy winners.

"On another day – and hopefully that day is coming soon – we’re going to take two or three (more) of these chances and make things a little bit easier for ourselves.

"But I’m not going to grumble having picked up two wins out of two.''

Baggs is determined not to get carried away by the opening to the campaign, which has also seen Melksham make progress in the FA Cup, in which they host divisional rivals Blackfield & Langley who have also won their opening two league matches, on Saturday.

"I think the biggest thing is we’ve carried momentum on from the end of last season,'' he added.

"We went on a seven-game winning streak to make sure we were promoted and then we’ve won the FA Cup tie and our first two games of this season.

"Riding the wave of confidence and momentum is going to be the key to carrying that on.

"The biggest thing for me is that with the competition for places we’ve got.

"Everyone wants to keep their shirt so it makes my life easy.

"You’ve just got to pick the lads playing well and they know that if their standard drops, someone is going to take their shirt and nobody wants that to happen.

"That’s key to how competitive we’ve been and how professional.''
