CORSHAM Town Reserves picked up where they had left off at the end of last season as they opened the new Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League Premier Division with a 2-1 triumph at Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development on Saturday.

Town, who went eight games unbeaten at the back end of the 2017-18 campaign, roared out of the blocks at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground to take a 2-0 half-time lead, Ashley Barnett and Darrin Moss on target.

Bassett reduced the arrears in the second period as Gabe Costello netted, but were unable to get back on terms.

Defending champions Kintbury Rangers began their defence in style by thumping Malmesbury Victoria Development 5-0.

Robbie Pitman’s own goal, Shaun Thorp’s double, George Smith and Chris Cox did the damage.

Melksham Town Reserves, who were pipped to the title last term, also started well, returning from Pewsey Vale Development with a 4-0 triumph, courtesy of a Jamal Chevolleau hat-trick and Billy Gleed’s effort.

A topsy-turvy clash at Purton saw the home side hit back from an early two-goal deficit before finally succumbing to Shrewton United.

Craig Lewis’ penalty and Dan Burton put United in the ascendancy, but Jack Duckers and Sam English restored parity after half-time.

Charlie Utterson’s late double decided matters in favour of Shrewton.

Wroughton eked out at 1-0 success at Westbury United Reserves, with substitute Jordan Lea netting 10 minutes from time.

Trowbridge Town pulled clear of 10-man Cricklade Town after the break at Woodmarsh, Alex Pippard’s brace and Joshua Hard netting in a 3-0 triumph.

Football ID, who as Bremhill went winless for the first 15 matches of last season, broke their duck at the first time of asking, Kyle Pogue-Elms’ goal seeing off Devizes Town Reserves.
