CHIPPENHAM Town boss Mark Collier will use his side’s remaining three games to experiment with tactics after losing 3-1 to Hemel Hempstead on Saturday.
Collier’s men suffered only their second loss in eight games on Saturday as David Moyo’s brace and Karl Oliyide’s first-half strike handed the home side a three-goal lead.
Dean Evans pulled a goal back for Chippenham moments before the final whistle as Town edged closer to mathematically securing their National League South status for next season.
The game presented Collier with a chance to experiment with his starting 11 as he switched tactics at half-time in the hope of learning more about his team with next season in mind.
He said: “We have experimented a little. We changed at half-time and played people in different positions, I think we’ll continue to do that.
“There are deals and contracts to be sorted for next season, that’s what some are playing for.
“We’re overjoyed to have almost secured our spot for next season.
“We’ll learn from our errors on Saturday, you often learn more when you lose.
“We know why we lost the game. It’s through no lack of effort.
“We just started the game badly and conceded two sloppy goals.”
This year marked Chippenham’s first crack at second tier non-league football in its history.
With surviving relegation set as a clear target, Collier has been pleased with the response from his men on the pitch.
He said: “The objection at the start of the season was the maintain our status in this division.
“We’re pleased with ourselves and the effort put in.”
