MARSHFIELD skipper James Williams says his side produced a complete performance at the weekend as they dominated Royal Wootton Bassett in WEPL Wiltshire.

Williams’ outfit lost the toss to the home side, who opted to field, but made good work of an unfamiliar ground as they reached 201-8.

Jeremy Bond put in a decent shift, and finished top scorer as he got to a half century (51) before being ousted by Bassett’s Akash Sharma.

Opener William Pascall was next in the scoring charts as he hit an unbeaten 37.

Following the solid display with the bat, things would only get better for the visitors as they dispatched the home side for 55.

Bond kept up his own personal performance by picking up five wickets, while Tom Clist wasn’t too far behind with three of his own.

Bassett will be mortified by their batting display, as no-one in their order was able to register higher than seven runs.

“It was the first complete performance we have turned in all season, where batters and bowlers were impressive,” said Williams.

“Bassett have knocked off a few teams so far this season so it was a good one for us to go and win.

“We had never played at Bassett’s new ground before, but when we got there we saw it was a big old space.

“We said we would be happy with 200, so to get that we were pretty happy and then I didn’t quite expect our bowlers to do what they did.”

Devizes were also in action as they claimed a seven-wicket home win over Calne. The hosts were set a target of 76, and they made light work of it, reaching 77-3.

Zwelibanzi Homani put in a stellar performance with the bat for Marlborough, where his 83 fired the visitors past Swindon, in a two-wicket win at the County Ground.

After choosing to field, George Fox’s Marlborough were able to dispatch the hosts for 226, a target they surpassed with a score of 227-8.

Great Bedwyn were the only local side who failed to pick up a win, as they fell short by 18 runs at home to Purton.

After choosing to field the visitors were reduced to 230, while Max Andrews’ outfit could only manage 212.
