POTTERNE captain Neil Clark admits that there will be tougher tests to come for his side after they moved to the top of the early Premier One table.

The six-wicket success over newcomers Bedminster comes off the back of Potterne’s opening day victory over Bristol.

The latest win was built around the all-round effort of Wiltshire captain Ed Young.

The slow left-arm bowler was the pick of the Potterne attack with 4-16 before he went on to score a half-century to lead his team home.

While Clark is pleased to see Young get some rewards for his efforts, he believes that his side have a number of good all-round players.

“It was great to see Ed pick up a few wickets,” Clark said. “He maybe hasn’t been as consistent with the ball as much as he would have liked but he did really well on Saturday.

“But I think there are seven or eight people I can call on to do a job with the ball.

“We have played two of the easier sides so far, so it is crucial that we keep working hard.”

Having won the toss and invited Bedminster to bat, Potterne had their hosts reeling at 20-4.

But as Bedminster started to find a way back into the game, Young did the damage with the ball as Potterne bowled their opponents out for 142.

In reply, Young’s 50 came off 37 balls to steer Potterne to victory.

Meanwhile, Corsham recorded their first win of the season with a 52-run success at home to Lechlade.

South African Remano Esau, who was dropped on 14, led the charge with a 106-ball 103, while Steve Bullen hit 70 and skipper Ashur Morrison struck a run-a-ball 48.

In reply, Corsham shared the wickets around as the visitors were dismissed for 232.

Morrison said: “Remano played a really good innings. It was massive that he was dropped.

“The wicket at Corsham was really nice to bat on and we were able to score at a good rate.”

“If I’m being hyper critical then we should have bowled them out for 160-170.

“But it is nice to get our first win, especially as we got maximum batting and bowling points as well.”
