CHIPPENHAM schoolboy Dominic Kilmister took his first victory in the Junior TKM class - in only his fifth race in the category - and with it the coveted Winter Series Championship at Shenington Kart Racing Club.
The 11-year-old, a Year Seven student at Sheldon School, has been racing karts for just over three years and was third in the Oxfordshire circuit’s Honda Cadet Championship in 2015 and was third in the Rissington Kart Club Honda Cadet Championship in Gloucestershire last year.
Racing in a class for 11 to 17-year-olds Kilmister dominated each of the seven practice sessions and his form continued in official practice and the first two heats, which he won.
An incorrect set-up in the third heat saw him finish seventh, enough for pole position in the final where, despite a slow start, he wrapped up victory and the championship.
Kilmister hopes to move on to the televised Super One British National Championships next year.
n ROUND one of the 2017 Castle Combe Karting Championship saw Bristol’s Ben Winter take victory ahead of Swindon’s Michael Seabourne, with Bristol’s Oliver Bayani in third.
The second round takes place on Saturday, April 22.
