SKIPPER Greg Tindle believes that every member of Chippenham Town’s squad have contributed to their title tilt this term, even if their two prolific goalscorers have basked in the lion’s share of the limelight.

The Bluebirds remain the top of the Southern League Premier Division and have been inspired all season by the feats of the division’s top-scorer Andy Sandell, who has netted 33 times, and David Pratt, who fired home his 27th strike of the current campaign to hand Chippenham a 1-0 win over Dunstable Town last weekend.

However, long-serving central defender Tindle says that there’s a whole lot more to his side than their dynamic duo up top and believes that a concerted team effort has made the Bluebirds a force to be reckoned with.

“It really helps having talents like Pratty and Sandell up front because it makes it so much easier when you’ve got two people that are going to put the ball in the back of the net so often,” said the 28-year-old.

“But I think that it’s about all the lads. From one to 16, we’ve all been involved.

“Two or three months ago, our defensive record wasn’t that great but we’ve really worked on that and now we’ve got the fifth-best record in the league – it helps to be scoring a lot but obviously, you’re going to do well if you’re not conceding many either.

“I think the mood in the dressing room is great. There’s a great atmosphere and we’re really enjoying it.”

Chippenham were four points clear at the top of the table – third-placed Slough were due to play Biggleswade Town last night – and Tindle reckons that the title race will still go down to the wire.

The Bluebirds will also play on Sunday this weekend, with their trip to Hayes & Yeading United taking place at Beaconsfield SYCOB’s Holloways Park ground (kick-off 1pm) – the Londoners have a fixture clash with Beaconsfield, with whom they ground-share, on Saturday.

Tindle added: “When we play on Sunday, Leamington could be a point behind us but we try not to think about the pressure. It’s a cliché, but we really try and take every game as it comes.

“We’re on a long unbeaten run and we’ve had a few draws in there but Mark (Collier, manager) said earlier in the season that every point, like when we drew at Leamington (on January 7) could be vital.

“I think that the top five could stay the way that it is but I really think that the title could come down to one or two points.”
