CALNE Town started 2017 with a bang as they thumped Westbury United 4-0 at home in the Toolstation League First Division.

The home side got off to a quick start as Mark Dolman broke the deadlock in the seventh minute, before William Boakes doubled their advantage three minutes later.

Josh Legg joined in when he found the back of the net in the 20th minute to give the hosts a comfortable 3-0 margin going into the break.

After the interval, the pace of the game slowed, but Dave Ferris’ men were able to add to their score as Dolman got his second with two minutes left to play as he sealed a 4-0 win.

“It went very well. Up until Saturday we had been playing reasonably well and before the game started, they were eight points above us,” said Ferris.

“It was a difficult day in some respects, but nowhere near as difficult as we had anticipated, “We said to the players that we need to put pressure on the ball and it paid off, the Westbury defence were at sixes and sevens.

“They knew as soon as they got the ball that there would be not one but two Calne players chasing them down.

“From that point of view, it was a superb performance, built on a lot of hard work but we did play some good stuff as well.

“When you consider we are third from bottom, it’s quite a statement for us to make.”

Corsham also scored four as they registered their sixth win of the campaign with a 4-2 away win at bottom of the league Almondsbury UWE.

Zach Costello, Callum Elms, Dan Heavey and Aaron Masson were all on target as they stretched their unbeaten run to three games.

Chippenham Park were unable to go one better on last week’s 1-1 draw with Calne Town as they could only replicate the result against Warminster Town.

Malmesbury Victoria also had to settle for a point as goals from Danny Cook and Samuel Parker were cancelled out by Devizes Town’s Thomas Slater and Rory Collins in a 2-2 draw at the Flying Monk Ground.
