DEVIZES Budo club youngster Max Major marched to success at the biggest domestic judo competition of the year.
Major swept all comers aside as he romped to gold in the pre-cadet boys’ U55kg category at the Pre-Cadet and Cadet British Championships at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, on Sunday, December 4.
The 12-year-old won all four of his matches with an ippon score to become the British number one for his age and weight category, and he wasn’t the only Devizes youngster to taste national success.
Competing against the cream of the crop, Jasmin Edwards and Isobel McKay also came home with bronze medals while three other Devizes judoka – Benjamin Mersini, Archie Carter-Humphries and William Hickman - all finished in the last eight from groups with 23 or more players in.
Devizes have finished the competitive year on a high, with medals won from all over the country and abroad, with this haul of prizes was gained under the tutelage of coaches Mark Burbidge and Jason Parsons.
Devizes Budo Club are always on the lookout for new children aged five and over, and adults of any ability, to train. More information is at devizesbudo.org.uk.
