DEVIZES Town manager Darran Walters believes that his players are revelling in their current run of good form.

The Nursteed Road outfit moved up to seventh in the Toolstation League First Division with their third victory on the spin, Tom Slater and Jack Hopper notching as they saw off Chard Town 2-1 last weekend.

The higher reaches of the table are unfamiliar territory for Devizes, who have struggled in recent years, and Walters is hoping that his team’s renaissance isn’t a short-lived affair.

“We wanted to finish in the top 10 if we could this season – that’s our aim – but we’re just knocking on the door of the top five at the moment and that’s a good place to be at this stage of the season,” said the Devizes boss.

“We brought in a couple of players a few weeks ago that have helped. Josh Brigham has tightened us up at the back and Jack Hopper has almost scored a goal a game.

“We’ve still got a young side but we’ve got some experience to back up that and I think the competition for places is really helping the lads.

“They’re all enjoying it and hopefully we can keep going and stay in that top half.”

Elsewhere, Malmesbury Victoria stretched their unbeaten run to three matches with a 2-1 victory over Almondsbury UWE.

Kevin Bridgeman’s side fell behind at the Flying Monk Ground and had Krystian Hext sent off for two first-half bookings but the 10 men pulled off a comeback.

Josh Russell’s pass was diverted into his own net by an Almondsbury defender before Ryan Tyrell set up Andy Baker to hit the winner.

Calne Town slipped to a 4-1 loss at the hands of Bishop Sutton, Mark Dolman hitting the Lilywhites’ consolation effort, while Corsham Town were also hammered at home, Ben Pring on target as they lost 5-1 to Radstock Town.

Chippenham Park were beaten 3-0 by Westbury United on Tuesday.
