BEVERSBROOK turned in a five-star performance to claim a spot in the second round of the Wiltshire Senior Cup after they overcame Trowbridge Town on Saturday.

Darren Mobey was the hero for Lee Ashby’s side as he helped himself to an impressive four-goal haul in an all-Wiltshire League encounter.

The two sides could not be separated in an even first half, which finished 2-2, but Beversbrook found an extra gear after the break to down the reigning Wiltshire League champions 5-3.

It was a tough Tuesday night for two other Wiltshire League sides as Marlborough Town and Wilts Calne Town were both beaten.

Marlborough were outclassed 3-0 away at Laverstock & Ford, who ply their trade in the Wessex League, while Wilts Calne Town were edged out 1-0 at Toolstation First Division side Westbury United.

However, there was disappointment for two of this region’s Toolstation League teams as they also suffered knockout blows in midweek, with both Chippenham Park and Malmesbury Victoria falling at the first hurdle of the county cup.

Mark Robinson was on target for Park but that could not prevent his side going down 3-1 at Wessex League outfit Amesbury Town.

It was a much more frustrating evening for Malmesbury as the quality of Southern League opponents Swindon Supermarine came to the fore in an emphatic 8-0 drubbing.

Pewsey Vale, of the Wessex League, suffered exactly the same fate when pitted against opposition from the Southern League themselves, with Salisbury easing home by the same 8-0 scoreline.

In an overall disappointing round for local sides, at least one of Toolstation League rivals Corsham Town or Devizes Town will have something to cheer tonight after they go head-to-head.

Meanwhile, Hellenic Premier Division side Royal Wootton Bassett Town face a trip to near neighbours Purton, who play one level lower in Division One West.
