NORTH Wilts Ladies made the perfect start to the new indoor season in the national inter-club championship.
Winners of the Yetton Trophy in 2007-2008, they began their quest for glory with an opening round 18-shot victory over local rivals Christie Miller.
The Chippenham side took the honours on all four rinks as they ran-out 87-69 victors.
North Wilts made a slow start and trailed Christie by seven shots at five ends (20-13) across the board but by ten ends, had edged 35-31 ahead and they continued to pull away before settling for an 87-69 success.
In the second round of the Yetton Trophy, which is due to be played on Saturday, November 7, North Wilts will meet Nailsea, who eliminated Bristol 78-74 in the opening round.
NORTH Wilts’ Alex Jacobs is through to the ladies Area 30 semi-finals in the champion of champions competition.
In the area quarter-finals, Jacobs, the national winner outdoors of the senior (O55s) singles title for the last two seasons, outgunned Pauline Dando (Purnell, Paulton) 21-15.
Jacobs will now face Christie Miller’s Bev Lilley away in Melksham in the area semi-final by November 8.
In the men’s champion of champions event, Jacobs’ club-mate Bob George booked an Area 30 home semi-final against Pip Branfield (Clevedon) following a 21-13 last-eight win over Rob Chappell (Nailsea).
NORTH Wilts’ men’s and mixed teams tackle their main national competitions over the next ten days.
In the Denny Cup – the inter-club championship – the Chippenham outfit face Purnell (Paulton) this Saturday while in the mixed Egham Trophy, they meet hristie Miller on Sunday, November 8.
