ALAN Low reckons Royal Wootton Bassett made harder work of their win away at Wimborne than was necessary.

Bassett scored four tries in Dorset to bag a bonus-point success but continually let the home side back into the match.

Although a little frustrated with how his side went about their business, it was a good day for Low overall as his side ended a run of two straight defeats and there were also encouraging first-team debuts for Ashley Stephens and Elye Darragh.

“It was a frustrating one, every time we scored points we made errors before clearing our lines,” said Low.

“There were some defensive errors that put us under pressure, we need to work on our exit strategies. With ball in hand we played some good stuff but we have got to get both parts of the game right.

“It’s a difficult place to go so it was good to get a win after a couple of defeats.

“We had two debutants and both performed really well. It’s great to see these guys coming up through and taking their opportunities.”

Captain Dave Hogg, Gavin Ougan, Darragh and Alex Norcross all touched down for Bassett, while the skipper also added 16 points with the boot.

  • MARLBOROUGH were beaten 41-20 on the road after a fine Midsomer Norton fightback.

Nathan Morgan kicked two early penalties but Norton trailed 10-6 at halfway.

Cameron McLaren and Jamie Laing both scored converted tries early in the second half as the visitors took control but Norton upped their game in the closing stages to seal a big win.
