MALMESBURY claimed just a second victory of the season when they crushed Calne by seven wickets.
Jack Ward’s men, promoted from the Wiltshire League last season, had been cut adrift at the foot of the table but they are now within 12 points of safety.
Figures of 3-47 from Josh Langley helped restrict Calne to 191 all out, with only Sean Adams (66) and Jordan Butler (58) making any notable contributions with the bat.
Malmesbury made relatively light work of the run chase as skipper Ward, George Royle and James Gillespie all made half-centuries to see them home with more than seven overs to spare.
“It was a good result for us and we needed it,” said Ward.
“We have had a really tough start to the season as we’ve had lots of people away. I have only played three games myself but hopefully now we should be able to send out a more settled side each week.
“Their top order are good players, so we knew it would be tough but we didn’t really let them get going. As soon as we were able to get into them, we took wickets pretty frequently.
“Myself, James and George all made a lot of runs last season, so it was good to be able to do so again.
“We were pretty comfortable right the way through and the main thing for us was to try and deny them as many points as possible.”
Leaders Marlborough got the better of a thrilling contest against Winsley.
The hosts must have thought they had the win in the bag as Simon Norris (93) and Charlie Holton (79) helped Winsley post 299-4.
However, 83 from George Fox and Peter Day’s 75 helped Marlborough chase that total to triumph by four wickets.
Devizes were two-wicket winners over Great Bedwyn.
Tom Grant and Tim Saye took three wickets apiece as Great Bedwyn were all out for 181, and Saye then top scored with 49 as Devizes scraped home.
Richard Oakley’s 6-14 saw Marshfield beaten by seven wickets by Westbury & District.
Marshfield were all out for 94, with Dan Gill’s 41 helping Westbury home with ease, despite William Pascall 's 3-34.
