DEVIZES racer Jake Honour bagged his fourth podium finish from five races during the latest outing for the Michelin Clio Cup Road Series at Thruxton last weekend, consolidating second place in the championship standings.

Despite a difficult qualifying session, in which the 23-year-old had to be satisfied with sixth on the grid, he made a blistering start to round four and rocketed into podium contention immediately.

Embroiled in a tight battle with John Creasey (Lincoln), Nic Harrison (Burton-on-Trent) and Tyler Lidsey (Dartford) throughout the 10 laps, Honour managed to see off his closely-matched rivals to secure second place by just a few tenths of a second.

"Starting sixth, I wasn't expecting to finish second but I was aiming for a podium", said the Jade Developments driver, "Finishing second is really good, I'm really chuffed, but it wasn't the easiest race and I had a lot of pressure from behind."

Unfortunately in round five on Sunday, Honour - who is originally from Melksham - missed out on extending his podium finishing record following a late tangle with Creasey at the chicane on the final lap of the race.

With the contact momentarily launching Honour's race-converted Clio Renaultsport 197 roadcar onto two wheels, the delay cost him a chance of third place and he instead crossed the line in sixth.

Croft in North Yorkshire will host rounds six and seven of the series on July 11-12.

The Summer Truckfest Race meeting at Thruxton also saw Chippenham's Will Di Claudio compete in the Happy Race Tricolore Trophy & Carbon 8 coupe Cup support races in his Peugeot 205 GTI.

Di Claudio finished third overall in both races, setting the fastest lap for his class in each.
