THE indoor season is rapidly drawing to a close, with the final block of major events in the national championships being staged at Melton & District from April 3-12.

North Wilts, based in Chippenham at Westcroft, will be represented in the ladies’ pairs and triples.

Sue Cooke and Alex Jacobs, who won the pairs crown in 2010, will be looking for better fortunes than last week in the large block of national championship and competitions held in Nottingham.

Together with Jean Collier, they enjoyed a 21-11 victory over Victory (Portsmouth) in the last eight of the Over 50s Two Wood Triples but were then beaten 21-15 by East Anglian club Acle (Norfolk).

However, all is not lost on the national title trail for Cooke and Jacobs as they are still in the running on two fronts.

They are in the last 16 in the pairs and face Anna Chalk and Katherine Rednall (Ipswich) on Saturday.

Also, together with Janet Hardie, Cooke and Jacobs have qualified for the last 16 in the triples and have drawn Cassidy Lenton, Barbara Bellamy and Sophie Tolchard (Torquay Utd).

WILTSHIRE ladies indoor president Jane Taylor and Bob George were the most successful bowlers at the North Wilts indoor club championships, with both recording a hat-trick of wins.

The former’s treble came in the ladies’ pairs, mixed fours and mixed first chance pairs, while George won the men’s singles, men’s triples and mixed fours.

Five players secured doubles, Ann Roberts-Phare, Fizz Mace, Gordon Scott, Maurice Byron and Alex Jacobs, with the latter retaining the ladies’ singles title.

MARTIN Selway has added to his list of PlanetBowls tournament victories by winning the Radnorshire IBC Open Singles Tournament played last weekend at Llandrindod Wells.

He beat the recent Bristol Open Singles runner-up Norman Coad (Bodmin) in the final 2-1 (4-7, 7-6, 2-0).
