NICK Maggs admitted that his blood was boiling after his Pewsey Vale side’s frustrating defeat at Fleet Spurs last weekend.

Vale slipped to a 2-1 defeat in Hampshire after the hosts’ James Chillery cancelled out Lewis Brown’s header before Sam Knowles fired home a late winner after his spot-kick was pushed onto the post by goalkeeper Richard Payne.

And Pewsey manager Maggs was left dismayed by his team’s profligacy in front of goal.

“It’s probably the angriest I’ve been all season but there’s no point standing there bawling and shouting at them,” said the Ball Road boss.

“It should have been done and dusted by half-time. I couldn’t complain about our performance in the first half or the first half of the second half but we just didn’t take our chances.

“We hit the bar twice and one of those times was from about two yards out – it was easier to score than miss and you just think ‘how has that happened?’.

“I know that it’s hard out there when you’re playing because you have to try and find a way through but it’s frustrating because we chucked it away.

“Against Downton last week, we took our chances but this time, it just didn’t happen.”
