RACING legends Kauto Star and Denman will appear at this year's Barbury International Eventing and Show in July (4-7).

The star duo, former winners of the Cheltenham Gold Cup, will appear on Sunday, July 7, the culmination of the four-day event.

The pair, who were stablemates when trained by Paul Nicholls, are arguably two of the most celebrated racehorses of modern times.

Renowned for his flamboyant jumping, Kauto Star won 23 races, including two Cheltenham Gold Cups and nearly £2.4 million in prize money during his racing career.

In 2011 he re-wrote history when becoming the first horse to win the King George V1 Chase a staggering five times.

Following his retirement, Kauto Star has been re-trained for dressage by leading British event rider Laura Collett, based at the nearby Membury Estate.

She and Kauto Star will be performing a demonstration in the main arena with Yogi Breisner, World Class Performance Manager and Chef d'Equipe to the British Eventing team.

Denman, fondly known as 'The Tank'. was retired in 2011 and has been enjoying life in the hunting field and team-chasing with Charlotte Alexander.

During his career, he won the 2008 Cheltenham Gold Cup, beating Kauto Star and finishing second in the race two more times.

A further significant tally was in the Hennessy Gold Cup, a handicap in which Denman carried almost two stones more than most of the others.

Also at Barbury, the Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) National Championships takes place for the sixth year and features an increased prize money fund.

The dressage phase will take place on Friday and the showjumping in the main arena will complete the competition on Sunday with the winner receiving £2,000.

Top names from the world of showjumping are also expected to attend this year’s event.

For the first time three BSJA Grand Prix showjumping classes will feature across Saturday and Sunday in the main arena, with £1500 in prize money up for grabs in each class, sponsored by Saracen Horse Feeds and Verdon Grey.

Iain Graham, chief executive for British Showjumping said: “It is a great opportunity for our sport to be showcased within the main arena of an International Eventing competition such as Barbury.

"We are sure that it will prove popular with both our members taking part in addition to the spectators at Barbury who will have the chance to see a London 2012 team gold medal winning sport first hand.''

Across the four days, Olympic horses and riders will take centre stage in the eventing competition, with dressage taking place from Thursday and cross country for the novice competition and the two-star event featuring on Friday and Saturday.

Riders in the three star competition, which culminates on Sunday, will complete the cross-country in reverse order of placing, tackling two of the signature Olympic fences that featured at last summer’s Games in Greenwich Park, including the Tower of London fence.

The winner will receive increased prize money of £5,000.

Nigel Bunter, chairman of the Barbury International Eventing and Show said: "With the additional showjumping classes running alongside the Eventing competition visitors will be able to see some of the top horses and riders in the country in action.

"Additionally we have equine celebrities Kauto Star and Denman joining us, so the event will showcase some of the biggest talents in equestrian sport and horseracing.''

The CGA Festival of Food will also run over the weekend, featuring a series of cookery demonstrations from celebrity chefs including Brian Turner (Ready Steady Cook) and Andrew Kojima (2012 Masterchef finalist).

Some of the visiting celebrities to Barbury from the entertainment and sports world will be invited to a cook-off competition.

Family fun includes the Amazing Bike Show, Sheep and Gun Dog and Birds of Prey displays, a Hound parade and The Lamb National - a favourite with the children - as well as plenty of children’s entertainment.

The nominated charity across the four-day event is the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Their Its A Knockout Competition on the Sunday will raise funds for the charity, when teams of local businesses will be taking part in a version of the popular 80's television show.

Advance tickets for the event start from just £10 per person, with U12s going free. For tickets and information visit barburyhorsetrials.co.uk or call the box office on 01672 516125.
