NEW timetables for mobile libraries in north Wiltshire come into service next month following a public consultation.

Busier stops will now see the library every two weeks and opening times are being lengthened where there is higher usage.

John Thomson, cabinet member for libraries, said: “We have listened to our mobile library users, and have developed these new timetables with them in mind.

“We know how important the service is to local communities, and our mobile libraries are part of this service. We also provide a home library service for customers who are physically unable to access a library or mobile service.”

The consultation drew responses from 768 people, with 98.9 per cent of them reporting they were satisfied or very satisfied with the proposed location of stops in the new programme, while 92.7 felt the same about the timings.

The routine consultation is carried out every two years to ensure the service operates efficiently in local communities, reaching the people who need it most.

Wiltshire Council said: “Every effort has been made to incorporate customer suggestions and comments into the final routes, which will be implemented from Monday 12 February 2018.”

Ashton Keynes will see the service twice a month from February 23, with the van stationed outside the village hall between 2pm and 3.30. It will be in Brinkworth once a month at Little Foxes nursery between 10.40am and 11.10am before moving to the village hall for a 11.15 – 11.45am slot.

It appears in Hook from March 6 at Drury Close from 10.40am to 11am, then at Lydiard Residential Park between 11.10am and 11.30 and finally at the Sun Inn, Lydiard Millicent between 11.40am and noon.

The service visits residential homes once a month in Purton, Cricklade, Braydon and Royal Wootton Bassett.
