POLICE have released images of silverware that was stolen from Malmesbury Abbey as part of an investigation.

The Abbey was broken into in the early hours of Saturday, October 14 and a donation box, petty cash and a safe containing a number of items of silverware were stolen.

This includes two silver chalices, one dated 1897 and one dated 1869, one small chalice inscribed 'Given to Malmesbury Abbey by A L 1905' and three silver plates dated 1702.

Investigating the burglary, PC Rob Wilson said: "Enquiries are continuing into this incident and we have released images of the stolen items in a desperate bid to locate them.

"They are unique pieces - if you know any information regarding their whereabouts please get in touch.

"This incident has understandably been very upsetting for those involved with the Abbey.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who may have information in relation to the incident in general."
