A CONCERT is to be held next month to honour two men who have left a legacy for music in the Devizes area.

The lives of Michael Oliver and Stephen Brazier, who both died last year, will be celebrated at St John’s Church on April 20. The tribute, to be given by St John’s Choir, will begin at 7.30pm with free admission.

Chris Totney, director of music at St John’s, said: “Everybody knows that Michael and Stephen served this region with distinction during their years among us.

“St John’s was just one of the many focal points of their various musical contributions, so we felt moved to respond to the town’s appetite for a huge event which aptly reflects their incredible influence on the life of this area.”

Mr Oliver was director of the Eisteddfod for 25 years, set up and ran a music summer school for 30 years and was musical director of what is now Devizes Musical Theatre for 15 years.

Mr Brazier was chairman of the Devizes Arts Festival. He is known for enabling a much wider variety of music to become more accessible to the local community during his time at the helm.
