THE queen of Kingston House Care Home in Calne dropped by to visit some of her friends, as the care home celebrated Care Home Open Day.

Ninety-year-old Doreen Wootten volunteered to act as her royal highness for the special day, which not only focused on community links, but also on celebrating the monarch's birthday on Saturday.

Catherine Beswick, care supervisor, said: "The day went really well and one of our residents volunteered to be the Queen, so she arrived in a posh car and spent most of the day walking round chatting to everyone, so she had a wonderful day!

"The Calne Silver Band also came in the morning and played God Save the Queen as she arrived and in the afternoon, the residents played a lot of different games like croquet.

"All of our residents also had the option of having a full English breakfast in the morning with a glass of bucks fizz.

"They all really enjoyed it and we've had some wonderful feedback."

Residents from Derry Hill were also invited to the care home to enjoy the day.
