A litter pick team in Chippenahm were joined by MP Michelle Donelan last weekend.

Crew members from three McDonald’s restaurants in Wiltshire recently carried out litter picks at their respective branches to keep their local area tidy.

A total of 26 bags of litter were collected across the three restaurants in honour of World Environment Day.

The volunteers, from the Melksham, Trowbridge and Chippenham McDonald’s restaurants, maintained a two-metre distance at all times to ensure social distancing rules were followed.

Ms Donelan, MP for Chippenham, took part in her town's event.

She said: “Last Saturday I enjoyed litter picking with some of the team at Chippenham McDonald’s around the store and Cepen Park.

"This was part of the Keep Britain Tidy and Love Where you live campaign so big shout out to everyone who has been out litter picking across our community.

"McDonald’s staff told me that they do two big litter picks a year, plus each day send a staff member around their immediate site and sponsor local bins. I think this approach should be adopted by other businesses whose products are often used as litter and shall write to all the key ones in the constituency to check their litter policies - do make suggestions in the comments.

"Really though it is down to all of us to use bins and recycle taking a moment to dispose of rubbish can saves our local environment and help protect our wildlife.”

Mike Guerin, who owns and operates several restaurants in the local area, said: “I’m really proud of my team for giving up their time and efforts to do their bit for our fellow community members.

"Across the South West region we had 40 employees take part in the litter picks and we collected nearly 60 bags of rubbish.

"McDonald’s is committed to fighting litter in our local communities and we are really happy with the difference we made.”
