This year's summer solstice celebrations at Stonehenge have been cancelled.

Thousands of people gather every year to watch the sun rise at the neolithic Wiltshire monument.

English Heritage confirmed the news today on Twitter.

This comes after Prime Minister Boris Johnson delayed the lifting of lockdown restrictions in England by four weeks.

It says: "Unfortunately, we have cancelled our Summer Solstice celebrations at Stonehenge, following the extension of the current Covid restrictions beyond 21 June.

"We're as disappointed as you but we hope you'll join us online, for free, to watch Solstice: https://eht.social/3wQUsvC"
