Police have arrested a 36-year-old man from Swindon in connection with the murder of teenager Lorna Gibbison.

The man was arrested on suspicion of murdering the 17-year-old from Bishopstone just before 7pm last night. He is now being held at Gablecross Police Station, where an incident room has been set up.

Detectives will interview him this morning.

Lorna's body was found near Alexander House in Fleming Way, Swindon, on Monday morning. Her injuries were consistent with those sustained in a fall.

The teenager, who only moved out of her family home in Bishopstone to a rented home in Frobisher Drive, Swindon, ten days before her death, was last seen leaving The Harrow pub in Wanborough, at 10.30pm on Friday night.

She had worked there as a waitress for two weeks. Police are still not sure where she went afterwards.

On Wednedsay her parents Keith and Julie appelaed for witnesses to come forward.

Mr Gibbison, 43, a factory worker, added: "Both Julie and myself don't believe she went into Swindon on her own to be on her own.

"We believe she was going to meet someone there and, if that person's out there, if they could just come forward."

Superintendent Richard Rowland said the police investigation is continuing and that officer will be out tonight trying to piece together her last hours.

Hp>He said: "Much of our work is still centred around piecing together Lorna's movements. Following information from the public and CCTV footage, we now know that Lorna was in the area of Fleet Street, Swindon, around 1.45 a.m. on Saturday 16th September.

"From about 9 pm, Friday 22nd September, a team of officers will be on duty until about 3 a.m. in the vicinity of Fleet Street, John Street and Fleming Way. We hope that tomorrow night we will be able to gather as much information as possible from anyone who may have seen or been with Lorna from about 1.45 a.m. onwards on Saturday 16th September.''

"We know that a large number of vehicles would have used nearby car-parks and many would have driven along Fleming Way, Fleet Street or John Street, last Friday night or early Saturday morning. If you were in the area and can help with information then please contact us as soon as possible.''

"We appreciate that our activities tomorrow night may cause some disruption and inconvenience but we ask the public to bear with us by supporting and accepting the importance of our investigation.

" We have had an excellent response from the public already and hope that our concentrated efforts tonight will help us get closer to finding out exactly what happened to Lorna."
