BRINKWORTH singer Shannon Saunders has marked a year since she was crowned the winner of a Disney Channel talent competition by planting trees to promote England’s woodland.

The 17-year-old topped a public vote last September after winning the hearts of Disney Channel viewers across the country.

As well as performing at a live concert in London’s KoKo Club music venue, and staging a private gig for friends and family at home, Shannon won the chance to sing the theme music to Disney’s film My Camp Rock 2.

Since then she has performed a track on the soundtrack for Disney’s 50th animated feature film Tangled, a global hit last year based on the fairy tale Rapunzel.

Shannon said: “My Camp Rock 2 was just on the Disney Channel but Tangled was released in cinemas.

“I got the honour of recording the song at the Abbey Road Studios.

“I also got to go to the premiere in London which was amazing.”

Having finished her diploma in songwriting at the Institute of Modern Music in Bristol in June, she is eschewing university to focus on her music.

She said: “I’m writing songs at home and doing some gigs in pubs and small music venues around North Wiltshire.”

Last month the former Wootton Bassett School pupil took part in the Disney Friends For Change campaign at England’s largest new native woodland at Heartwood Forest, Hertfordshire.

“I’m thrilled to be part of this initiative to help encourage kids to and help make a difference in their communities,” she said.
