Thug Daniel Liptrot was jailed for seven-and-a-half years after a court heard how he attackd a man with a glass bottle.
Liptrot, 29, of Inglesham Road, Swindon, assaulted his victim on his doorstep in front of his wife and children, Swindon Crown Court was told.
He was jailed after being found guilty of wounding with intent.
The court heard the victim needed stitches in a 3ins gash to his head and treatment for cuts to his hand, left forearm and the top of his chest afger the attack on July 15 this year in the Penhill area of Swindon.
Detective Constable James Newbery of Swindon Police said: "This sentence highlights that vicious crimes of this nature will not be tolerated and we will continue to work closely with CPS to make sure offenders of who commit these crimes are dealt with in a prompt and robust manner.
"Due to the prompt actions of officers on the night the offender was swiftly identified and arrested. Whilst Wiltshire is a safe place in which to live and work we are committed to making it safer still."
