BRITAIN'S favourite bear turns 50 this month and to celebrate he is visiting Swindon's Brunel Centre today.
And as well as greeting shoppers, he will meet children from three of the town's schools, whose pupils will sing Happy Birthday to him. Paddington was created by author Michael Bond in 1958 and all the schoolchildren he meets today will be bringing along their own teddies to celebrate his birthday.
"We are very excited about having Paddington to visit," said Brunel director Nick Beaumont-Jones.
"He is quite a celebrity and looking very good for his 50 years, and I hope shoppers at The Brunel and the schoolchildren will enjoy meeting him." Children from Drove, St Catherine's and Lethbridge primary schools will be meeting Paddington upstairs in The Brunel. As well as singing happy birthday to him, they will be treated to story-telling from Swindon poet Tony Hillier.
