Police have named the victim of a brutal attack in Freshbrook over the weekend.
Terence Stevens, 51, was left with severe head injuries after his assailant robbed him of his mobile phone and wallet.
He was transferred to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where he underwent a five-hour operation on his brain.
Mr Stevens left the Windmill pub at about 11.15pm on Saturday night and was attacked in nearby Worsley Road.
He visited the cashpoint next to the Tesco Express in Freshbrook Village Centre before walking across the car park in the direction of Worsley Road.
His condition is described as serious but stable.
Police are renewing their appeal for witnesses, particularly as the Windmill pub was packed with England football and rugby fans.
Mr Stevens is described as 5ft 10ins tall, clean shaven with grey collar-length hair. He was wearing a black waist-length leather jacket, a denim shirt, blue jeans and white trainers.
